Joe series in comics, toys and movies, Storm Shadow has several shades – humanity, loyalty and vulnerability – that makes him one of the most lovable and popular characters of G.I. Joe. Storm Shadow is a literal translation of this character’s real name, Thomas Arashikage – Arashi meaning storm and kage meaning shadow in Japanese. Of Japanese- American origin, Storm Shadow has been the only character who has consistently switched sides, sometimes being a part of G.I. Joe and sometimes being a part of Cobra, arch enemies of G.I. Joe forces.

As per history, Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes were almost as close as brothers while serving together in Vietnam as part of the Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol Unit or LRRP. In fact, Storm Shadow even risked his life to save the life of Snake Eyes. However, a chance visit of Snake Eyes with Storm Shadow’s family and ninja clan, the Arashikage, changes everything.

While Snake Eyes stays on with the family to master the ninja arts, he also impresses the Hard Master, uncle of Storm Shadow, who starts looking at Snake Eyes as a possible successor of the Arashikage ninja clan. This triggers of a range of emotions within Storm Shadow including jealousy. At this point, somebody kills the Hard Master assuming him to be Snake Eyes.

Storm Shadow follows in pursuit of this killer but others including Snake Eyes assume Storm Shadow to be the killer. Snake Eyes, who looked upon the Hard Master as his pseudo-father, vows to avenge Storm Shadow. Meanwhile, Storm Shadow joins the ranks of Cobra to find the true killer. He becomes the bodyguard of Cobra Commander and he confronts Snake Eyes in several fights and in one such fight, the misunderstanding is cleared and Storm Shadow rejoins G.I. Joe. However, comics show him being brainwashed by Cobra and Storm Shadow always shifting his loyalties between both these organizations.

There have been several variations of Storm Shadow costumes. If your child wants the Storm Shadow of Cobra, there are several childs Storm Shadow costumes with the red band to indicate loyalty towards the Cobra forces. Other child Storm Shadow costumes comes a plain white jumpsuit with a ninja hood. The nose and mouth are covered and there is a small eye opening to add authenticity to the costume. There are also accessories such as the fake katana owned by Storm Shadow. Typical of ninja, some kids Storm Shadow costumes also provide fingerless white gloves.
